Ice Update-March 14

Hi Summerside,

With all this warm weather coming at us this week, today we, unfortunately, will have to say goodbye to our Jellybean Land-Based Pleasure Rink for the season.

The concrete under the skating surface has begun to absorb solar energy, which is normal for this time of year. It causes a layer of water to form under the ice, as well as the surface has become too soft to safely skate on. As temperatures aren’t getting cold enough to freeze this layer, it becomes difficult to maintain the ice surface to an appropriate standard.

Our remaining skating surfaces (lake pleasure rink, lake hockey rinks, and land-based hockey rink), continue to be open! To ensure everyone’s safety, be sure to use extreme caution and look out for any large cracks and water on the ice. Cracks can happen at any time and cause weakness, especially in warmer temperatures! If you see any water seeping, please leave the ice and inform our staff immediately.

Please stay tuned for any updates. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call the office at 780-497-7558 or the gatehouse at 780-756-6772. We hope to see you swing by to still enjoy our other skating surfaces in the sunshine! Happy skating!
