SSRA Re-opening Guidelines

Hello Summerside,

We are excited to announce that, following guidance provided by Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health and the Government of Alberta, we are able to open the Lake. Though we are excited to see you back at the beach, we will be re-opening in a limited capacity under specific regulations in alignment with AHS and the City of Edmonton.

Our goal in taking this initial step is to create a safe environment for everyone, and by doing so, be able to maintain our license to remain open through the summer. In order to do this, as a community, we need to remember that, not only are we all in this together, but you are in this with your neighbors! Remaining diligent with physical distancing requirements and keeping 2 meters from others is critical, along with following and respecting the regulations the SSRA has put in place at this time.

Below are the details of our re-opening at this time:

Hours of Operation

We aim to open on Wednesday, May 20. Please note this date is subject to change as updated information and preventative measures are released by health officials.
Park hours will be 10am- 9:30pm Monday-Sunday.
Office hours will be 9am- 5pm Monday- Friday.
Entry Park will be open from 10:00am-9:00pm. Residents must abide by physical distancing restrictions while accessing Entry Park.
Resident Guests & Capacity

There will be limits on entrance capacity and we will stop admitting residents when we reach this capacity. All entry will be first come-first serve. Our staff also reserve the right to stop checking in people at any time they view distancing guidelines start to become a challenge. If you are curious about the current entry status at the park, you can call the gatehouse at 780-756-6772.
We will not be allowing any guests at this time. We know many of you enjoy being able to bring guests, however we must serve the residents of our community first, and want to give as much opportunity and space to our residents as we take this initial step to re-open the amenity. We will review park usage and adjust this policy accordingly.
Please ensure everyone living in your household is registered with our office, because there will be no exceptions made at the gate. To confirm who is registered in our system, you can contact our office at 780-497-7558.
The age of entry without supervision will temporarily increase from 12 years old, to 16 years old, because of the seriousness of this public health event and the caution we are taking during this initial phase.
Residents who live at lakefront or lake access homes can use the lake immediately via their private docks or shared access docks.

Social Distancing

Staff will evict anyone failing to follow public health orders. Extended loss of entry privileges may also result. Let’s all respect one-another, and the gift of enjoying the lake this summer.
Residents must follow physical distancing requirements when using shared access docks.
There will be physical distancing lines marked 2 meters apart for the check-in lineup, and scanning of cards will be done with a 2-meter distance between staff and residents. Everyone entering the park will be asked a series of screening questions before entrance is permitted.
Closed Amenities & Programming

Rentals of watercraft will not be available because of government restrictions on shared use equipment. However, residents will be allowed to bring in their own non-motorized watercraft for personal use.
Our fishing dock will be closed because of physical distancing limitations. Instead, our boat dock will be open for fishing use. This will allow for individual spots that meet physical distancing requirements. Fishing will also be permitted by boat, in the cove in the park, and at Entry Park.
Our playground, tennis courts, basketball courts, beach volleyball courts, and mini golf remain closed during our initial phase of launch. Equipment rentals such as basketballs, tennis racquets, will not be available.
Our concession will remain closed.
BBQ pits remain closed.
Summer programs and Summer Camp will not be offered following AHS guidance.
Prohibited items

In addition to our regular list of prohibited items (alcohol, cannabis, glass, and firewood), water play spray devices (e.g. water guns) are also prohibited.
Anyone caught with prohibited items will be immediately asked to leave, and a potential suspension of park privileges will be reviewed by Management.

Hygiene and Facilities

Our buildings will remain closed. We will have portable toilets and hand wash stations on site.
There will be no access to water fountains/ drinking water on site.
We will have an increased cleaning schedule to frequently sanitize all high touch surfaces.
Residents should limit food and drink brought into the park. Food and drinks cannot be shared among people other than those living in the same household. Please place all garbage in the garbage bins around the park.

As previously mentioned, our aim is to create a safe environment for everyone and remain open through the summer. Because of this we will have staff observing and providing physical distancing reminders as needed.

The health and safety of our residents and employees continues to be our main priority, and we will continue to follow all guidance from Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health. We will continue to adjust these policies as new information and guidance becomes available. We thank you for your patience and understanding at this time. Let’s all continue to work together to keep people in Summerside safe, both in our park and outside of it!

See you at the beach!
