Parent & Child programs teach children important introductory physical skills and help them develop confidence in their abilities. The program also helps adults understand proven teaching techniques that can be applied outside of Sportball classes. Classes focus on refining, rehearsing, and repeating skills and playing games in a fun, creative, and non‐competitive environment. Classes are conducted once a week in 45‐minute sessions – just the right length of time for active little minds and bodies. This class is appropriate for all levels!

You'll see an increase in self-confidence, coordination, ability to focus, general awareness, moderation, respect for others, and more appreciation for world values. Beginners simply learn, while the advanced polish their skills. Students need to purchase their uniforms online or from the instructor for about $50, but a uniform is not required to start. Personal protective equipment (helmet, shin protectors, and gloves) costs about $120 and is required starting with the second term. Occasionally, there might be additional costs for other equipment, belt gradings, or participation in related events (T-shirts, tournaments, inviting an advanced instructor, camps, etc). As applicable, students/parents must check with their doctor or medical clinic if medical conditions would prevent moderate to intense physical activities prior to attending classes and if allowed to participate, the instructor needs to be informed about any such medical conditions. Everyone is invited to give it a try, come join us for a great experience

Welcome to our Sportball Mashup week! When you can't decide your favourite camp, why not combine them all for one Sportacular week?? This spring, our Sportballers will experience a camp that has elements of our Geek Week, Epic, Einstein's Athletes, and even our Just Imagine camps all in one glorious week. Special activities include anything from Nerf wars, wand making, science experiments, to even special visits from guest characters. This is all in addition to learning 2 new sports each day that week! Although our plans are based around physical literacy and motor development, we prioritise fun, smiles and core memories in addition to being active here at Sportball Spring Mixup camp!

Little Medical School – Wilderness Medicine
At the Wilderness Medicine School, students will be immersed in vital emergency care in remote wilderness settings. Your little doctor will learn how to respond to emergency situations in the wild such snake bites, hypothermia and more. They will also get to
practice how to tie a tourniquet and splint a broken leg. Students will also learn about survival in the great outdoors in an emergency such as learning about water safety and how to filter dirty water. These future emergency medics will also learn about mosquitoes and diseases and how to protect themselves from mosquito bites and other bugs. Students will have fun and use their creativity as they learn 20 ways to use a bandana in emergencies.

This is a fun introductory class for children with limited to no skating experience. Participants will develop balance and basic skills such as gliding, stopping, and backward skating. Students will learn through fun and age-appropriate, games and activities.

**Participants should dress according to weather. Snow pants, winter gloves, and jackets are recommended. CSA-approved hockey helmets or a winter sport helmet is mandatory for all participants. The program will cancel at -25 degrees Celsius with the wind chill.

Participants will be notified of makeup classes

Parents are required to stay rinkside during the class

The Babysitting course refreshed and revised, now has a greater emphasis on First Aid skills. The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting course covers everything from managing difficult behaviors to essential content on leadership and professional conduct as a babysitter. Babysitting promises to deepen and enhance the responsibility that older youth feel when caring for younger children. This updated curriculum, complete with new science, also provides improved learning when it comes to giving the appropriate care in the event of an emergency.   CourseContent

  • How to be responsible and demonstrate leadership
  • How to make good decisions and manage difficult behaviors
  • Information on children’s developmental stages, and specific strategies for each stage
  • How to feed, diaper, dress, and play with children and babies

This 1-day in-person session instructed by Impact First Aid & CPR is to educate youth aged 9 to 13 years on basic first aid and safety skills for when they are not under the direct supervision of a guardian or parent.The Stay Safe! program teaches applicable and age-appropriate skills while increasing and reinforcing a youth’s capacity to improve his or her own safety. Whether in their community or on their own, this group will be given better tools to Stay Safe! in a variety of different situations.Attendance is required to receive a certificate of completion:Participants will receive a Red Cross Stay Safe! manual, and a certificate upon completion of the program. Course Content:

  • Importance of responsibility and respect while being accountable for yourself
  • Importance of setting and following rules around safety when staying on your own
  • How to stay safe at home and within the community
  • How to prepare, recognize and respond to unexpected situations, (i.e. inclement weather, strangers, unanticipated visits)

First Aid Content: Check, Call, Care (includes phoning EMS/911), recovery position, conscious choking (adult/child/alone), feeling unwell, asthma (includes the use of inhaler and spacer), anaphylaxis (includes the use of EpiPen), poisoning, insect stings, wound care (i.e. minor cuts and scrapes, splinters, nosebleeds, bumps and bruises, life-threatening bleeding, burns)  Please Bring:

LEVEL 1 - Learn - Introduction to Stand Up Paddleboarding. Recommended for people new to SUP and those who have never taken formal lessons. Learn essential paddling skills, safety skills and knowledge to get the most out of your time on a stand up paddleboard. We cover everything from how to hold a paddle to what to do if you fall off. Progress from kneeling to standing at your own pace while you learn the essential paddling strokes necessary to paddle in a straight line, turn, and stop. Finish the day with a smile and the confidence to safely hit the water on your own after the lesson. All paddling and safety equipment is included.

They will also learn how the body gets energy from food as well as understanding the link between body weight and disease.

We will open our heart with a cup of sacred cacao, energetically, cacao is a powerful plant medicine that allows us to see and experience life from the frequency of the heart. If there is something just underneath the surface, cacao may open your ability to access it. After drinking cacao, we will drop into a Sound Bath. Separately, cacao and sound are incredibly healing medicines. Together, they co-create deeply somatic insights and experiences that heal on all levels -- physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. A variety of Quartz Crystal Singing Bowls, Rain sticks, Tibetan Singing bowls, Chimes and more healing instruments will be used. The Cacao used in ceremony is allergens safe.

LEVEL 2 - This is where the fun really begins. Builds on the knowledge and skills gained in Level 1 and adds stances, movement on the board, and more advanced paddle strokes. Recommended for those who wish to paddle longer distances, in rougher conditions or just want to show off. Learn about rescues and towing another SUP as well. Successful completion awards Paddle Canada “Advanced Flatwater SUP Skills” certification, which (after some practice) allows students to pursue additional training in whitewater, ocean touring and surfing skills courses.

An introductory class that is designed for children who are new to hockey or have limited experience. Participants will develop fundamental hockey skills, including skating, stick handling, passing, and shooting. The focus will be on building confidence, coordination, and teamwork, all through engaging and fun activities. Parents are required to stay rinkside during the program .
