Park Entry Bag Checks for Safety Effective August 4

Dear Guests,

On Monday Aug. 4th, the SSRA’s staff will be conducting checks of bags, coolers, wagons, and drinkware for alcohol, glass, knives, live bait, and other contraband listed in Section 7 Prohibitions of the SSRA Rules and Regulations.

Why are we doing this?

The Summerside Residents Association (SSRA) is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all staff, members, and guests. You, the residents, have asked us to commit our time and resources to create the safest family environment we can and creating rules like this are part of our strategic plan.

In recent months, the SSRA staff have noticed guests bringing in alcohol and becoming intoxicated while using the park and amenities. We have also found glass bottles and knives in our park. Vaping and smoking of any kind including marijuana is not permitted. On some occasions, non-service animals have been hidden in small carriers and brought into the park.

How it will happen:

As part of our policy, rules and regulations, we’re asking all guests to voluntarily allow a quick visual check of bags, coolers, drinkware, wagons, and containers to ensure these items aren’t brought in.

At the front gate of the park, while in the park, or using an SSRA amenity, a staff member will introduce themselves to you and ask you to present your membership card. You must present your physical card to the staff member. Guests of members must be with their host, and their host must present their card. Failure to present your physical card at any time to a staff member upon request will result in your immediate removal from the park or amenity.

This is a non-invasive search—just a quick look inside. The staff member may ask you to remove some items for presentation. We won’t be touching personal items or conducting any physical searches. If you choose not to consent to the search, that’s completely your right—but know that we won’t allow you entry the property.

We will not be confiscating contraband. You must leave immediately upon request with the items and may return once they no longer with you. We will not hold items for you. There will be no exceptions. Abandoned goods will the disposed of in the garbage.

Consequences for non-compliance:

Alberta’s Laws permit us to control who enters our private property and our SSRA’s Articles of Association, Policies, and Rule and Regulations describe our powers to create rules that must be followed while using all amenities. Not following the rules, forfeits you right to use the amenities and you will be subject to disciplinary action. This includes monetary fines up $100 and suspension of membership to access the amenities for up to 12 months. If a staff member has issued an order to leave the facility and the guest does not comply on the second request, the Staff are instructed to call the Edmonton Police Service who are now registered agents of all Summerside Lands to perform arrests and removal on our behalf.

Rude, condescending, and disrespectful actions will not be tolerated. Any behavior that attempts to bully, intimidate or harass a staff member will result in immediate removal from the property and you will be subject to fines and suspension of membership.

To help keep this a safe, family-friendly, and enjoyable space for everyone, please do not bring alcohol, glassware, knives, live bait, marijuana or other contraband into the Park and amenities. Amenities include all SSRA owned property such as, entry park, play parks, lake access paths, and community docks.

Thanks so much for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions about our rules or regulations, policies, or what’s allowed, we’re happy to help!
