Summer Season Open 2025 Yellow Flag Status

Exciting Update, Summerside Residents!

We’re pleased to announce that Lake Summerside will  OPEN for the summer season starting Saturday May 17, 2025! Whether you’re interested in fishing, watercraft activities, or simply relaxing by the shore, it’s the perfect time to enjoy the lake and its beautiful surroundings.

As of Friday, May 16, 2025Yellow Flags are currently in effect at the lake.

As per our Flag System (detailed at www.lakesummerside.ca > Flags > Information), Yellow Flags signal an elevated level of risk. While the air is warming, the current lake temperature is 10.5°C, which presents a significant safety concern.

Important Safety Notice: Cold Water Advisory

Please be advised of the following important safety guidelines regarding lake use:

  • Swimming and personal watercraft use are currently prohibited due to low water temperatures.
  • Members are expected to exercise caution and sound judgment when engaging in any lake-related activities.
  • All lake use is at your own risk.

As of today, the lake temperature is 10.5°C, which presents a serious safety hazard. At this temperature, there is a high risk of cold water shock upon immersion, which can lead to rapid breathing, loss of muscle control, and even unconsciousness. Extended exposure may quickly result in hypothermia, significantly increasing the danger of swimming or accidental falls into the water.

According to industry best practices and safety guidelines, water temperatures should reach a minimum of 16°C (60°F) before swimming is considered safe for the general public, Specifically Children. Until these conditions are met, swimming will remain prohibited to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents and visitors.

Watercraft Rentals are now OPEN! Effective Saturday May 17, 2025
Watercraft rentals are available for the summer. Please keep in mind that rentals may be temporarily suspended due to wind speeds over 20 kph or low water temperatures. Reminder that a physical membership card is required at the boat dock to access rentals.

Do you need a replacement card? Visit the main office during business hours. Replacement cards are $10 unless it’s been over three years since your last card was issued!
